PHCC Grassroots Award

At the PHCC PAC Reception, PHCC National presented the PHCC Grassroots Award to the SDAPHCC for efforts in working with the South Dakota State Legislature on several recent bills. The Grassroots Award is awarded to a chapter the has established a grassroots legislative goal and has demonstrated a commitment to follow through with the legislative process.

In recent years, the SDAPHCC has worked on the following issues to protect the plumbing industry and plumbing code in South Dakota:

  • In 2019, the SDAPHCC fought against a bill that would allow homeowners to do their own plumbing on their new construction home.
  • In 2021, the SDAPHCC lobbied against a bill that would have changed the plumbing license renewal process.
  • In 2022, the SDAPHCC monitored the process of a proposed code update and fought against a poorly amended bill.

In each instance, association members rallied together to testify at hearings and contact law makers.  By joining together, the association was able to make an impact and protect the industry.
